Had a big scare earlier on with my laptop, I had a virus or something. Luckily I could sort it out but still it has made me scared. I depend big time on my laptop, both to do Uni work (we do 99% of our work through the Internet) and as my main source of fun. I was on the verge of tears. Anyway, this laptop is like 4 years old so I need a new one, I hope my parents can afford one. Not too sure, but I'll have to explain them that I just need a new one, especially if I am moving to England. Being a translator I don't want to buy one in Britain because they keyboards are different and writing in Spanish is way harder with them - you need the accents and the special characters. I know there are codes for them but having a key is way easier, isn't it?

Roberto is stuck in the Netherlands because of the big ash cloud. His flight is scheduled for Sunday but I spoke to him yesterday and told him to get used to the idea of his flight being delayed. I know people who were meant to leave Spain on Wednesday and now they can't leave until further notice.

I will have to cover Roberto at work - that is good, I will earn some money for further plans in June (hopeully!). I would however like him to come back, I miss him.

I am also angry because my nan was really ill at the beginning of the week and nobody bothered to tell me because I am not in town. I know they do it because they think it is better for me, but seriously; they did the same last year when I was in Salford, nan was in hospital and they told me two days later. It wasn't like I was going to fly back -when nans are that old you get used to scares- but I would have liked to know about it! Ahh, rents.

As for Uni, I am going to work my arse off from now on, the days of arsing around are over. End OF.

I have lately been listening to some hip-hop tunes. I would have never thought at this age and stage of my life I'd end up having an Akon or Flo Rida song in my iPod, much less an MGMT's Kids' remix by an electronic-hip hop band. The remix is just fine, the lyrics are good and I like them; but Iyaz's or Flo Rida's? Oh boy. I must admit I feel ashamed of myself for listening to that shit, they are just *that* horrible. The songs are catchy, very much so, but the message they are trying to get through is disheartening.

Nothing I had ever heard on a rock song can top a hip hop song. Pop songs tend to be from a woman's point of view of "oh I love you and I'll do anything for you" - which is just quite as bad, Taylor Swift's lyrics make me crrrrrrrrrrrrrrrringe, it's the textbook definition for "female submission": "He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said / marry me Juliet, you'll never have to be alone (because being alone is a bad thing) / I love you, and that's all I really know / I talked to your dad (well thanks for asking him permission to fucking marry ME) -- go pick out a white dress (really?? Can I?? Am I allowed??) / It's a love story, baby just say... yes (NO)."

And as cringeworthy as that is, these hip hop are a whoooooooole different thing. Much worse. Their lyrics openly call women "bitches", talk about their bodies and explicitly say what they would like to do to them, sexually. Textbook definition for "male dominance". I suppose Iyaz is avant-garde when he sings on "Replay": "doing things I never do / I'm in the kitchen cooking things she likes". Woah son, congratulations, you're taking care of your girlfriend. However, after listening to some Notorious B.I.G. yesterday on telly, which made my blood boil, that's good, I mean - a man who treats his girlfriend like a person.

Such a long road to be walked, I know music isn't everything (for most people anyway), but I really doubt listening on repeat to arseholes like Notorious B.I.G. would do a young man's mind any good. Oh, and the grammar. The grammar. Jesus Christ that grammar. Makes me shudder.

Anyway.

I'm not trying to be a "feminazi", as my friends say, I hate women who burn their bras and think everything is a plot against vaginas. I just want women to treat men and men to treat women like what everyone is - a person. And these lyrics are doing nothing for that conception, they're just perpetuating gender roles in a very unhealthy way. At the end of the day, both Swift and these hip hop "artists" set the example of weak women who need to be protected and strong men who will treat women like shit.

Aloma and Natalia, to whom I very recently dedicated a post stating just how much I love them, have photoshopped a picture of my face onto the body of a fallera. For those of you who don't know, a fallera is a female participant in Valencia's festival, called Las Fallas, which I hate very much, for a lot of different reasons. So not only have they photoshopped it, but they have uploaded it on facebook, tagged everyone and put it as their profile picture. Yes, now all my friends have THIS photoshopped picture of me as their profile picture.

Las Delicias

That's how we call our flat, because officially we're rented in Las Delicias street, Borriol, due to our landlady not knowing how to write contracts. We only found out this when we had to counterfeit the contract and forge her signature to be able to apply for a scholarship, and well, it all stemmed from there. Anyway. Las Delicias is probably the best thing that's happened to me since September. Roberto, Sergio and I wanted to live together and we found this nice flat close to the train station and the city centre. Then we got in touch with David, and he joined us. Result!

My flatmates are my friends, they're amazing, and I love them. When the break up, they took me out, spent all their spare time with me and helped me feel much better in a much shorter time. Now we go out together (well, except David who has his own group of friends but anyway is a sweetheart and I love him very much, because we couldn't have chosen a better flatmate for the fourth room), watch tv series together while eating sunflower seeds and spend stupid amounts of time in MY room (because it's the biggest one) doing absolutely nothing.

Final year has proven to be the best year at Uni for me. I love Las Delicias, and we finally have a decent photo of the four of us to show. I'm happy! Click on the picture for a larger, more decent size!

I'm pretty excited about my scholarship. I can't get the thought out of my mind that I'll end up in New Zealand or Australia, and that makes me want to hop all around. Today, Gabe Saporta (hot hot hot), from Cobra Starship, tweeted:

And I thought - woah son I want to go there. I don't give the slightest fuck about the sun, to be honest, since I love British weather, but I want to live in Australia or Oz so badly. I have been looking at the entry requirements in the countries, and whereas I could easily get a visa to get in Australia, it wouldn't be as easy for Oz, as my degree doesn't fit in any of the shortage positions. And that's pretty shit if you ask me, but I'll try in a few years time when I have more qualifications under my belt and a proper job waiting for me down under. Mum doesn't look happy when I mention it, and Roberto doesn't look extremely happy either, but I just want to go there.

Now then, I have to be realistic, and I know I won't be given the scholarship. There are only 5 places for Australia and 2 for Oz, or something equally ridiculous, and same for the US, so I'll probably end up again in Costa del Salford, Bristol or somewhere in Yorkshire. Which is good, don't get me wrong - I love Lancashire, and Bristol doesn't sound that bad. Yorkshire is just close to Manchester, so erm, that's why. I know I will also probably get the scholarship for both France and Belgium, but I'd much rather be somewhere around Manchester again, if anything to follow my plans of a second degree in Albion.

I can't stop thinking of the scholarship now, so much could stem from that. So many big things!!

I am on holidays this week, because it's Castelló's festival, so I came round my parents for a few days, but today I'm going back so we can start partying all the weekend long.

And well, I don't know, life is good, I'm still skint, but might get some munnies soon to buy my ticket to FIB (woohoo) and yeah, I don't know. All is good. Fingers crossed for Salford and / or Oz.

I have already mentioned how I wasn't happy at all during my college years. I found my classmates to be utterly devoid of any neurones, and I hung around with some girls I no longer speak to, except Irene, who's very sweet and one of the best people I've ever met. I spent time with them just not to be fucking alone all day. I didn't go out very much and was into stuff nobody else was into (emo, indie music; foreign languages, travelling). I spent my days and nights listening to music none of my classmates liked and surfing the internet and stewing and dreaming of a better life (abroad). I was your average angsty teenager, except I didn't yell at my parents because I knew it wasn't their fault.

So, anyway.

Last year I signed up to this Spanish social networking site, because my old friend María told me our classmate Sandra had uploaded pictures swearing allegiance to the flag, because she is now a civil guard. Needless to say, I couldn't say no to that. I signed up only to find my school classmates are a bunch of crackheads. Didn't hear much from my college classmates or anyone attending my college, and quite frankly, didn't want either.

A few days ago I received a friend request from a lad who attended my college (he wasn't even in my class) but never looked at me, he rather stared through me. I was invisible to him. I never had a crush in him, but it would have been nice of him to acknowledge I was a breathing human being. You know, nodding at me when we bumped into each other on the street or something. He never did. I didn't exist, I didn't register under his radar. He added me because we have a friend in common (a girl from college, from another class, who was OK and anyway I accepted her because I wanted to have a perv at her profile - nothing interesting I must add), saying "Hi! You okay? Your face rings so many bells!!". I was like "asshole". I messaged him back saying "yeah we both went to the same college but we never really talked", and rejected his friend request. The cheeky bastard replied saying "oh well, maybe it's a good time to start talking now?". I must say I accepted his friend request only not to come across as a stuck-up bitch.

I mean, seriously? I know I wasn't exactly the prettiest girl around in college and I was kind of a loser, but sweetheart, you NEVER even looked at me in the face, I was right invisible, and now I look kind of good and my profile picture is fairly decent -thanks to Carlos, who took it- you add me and want us to "get to know each other"? Yesterday was my Uni's party (we call it paellas) - we celebrate its foundation, in 1991 (it's funny how I'm older than my Uni). What we actually do is throwing a big party on campus with DJs and live music and karaoke, where everyone cooks paella (hence the name) with their friends / classmates, gets obnoxiously drunk and then parties all night. In theory. Most people don't make it past 9pm. I got bungalowed, passed out twice, on campus after having lunch and round Carlos when we left Uni; and then I went out with my friends, soaked in sangria and other kinds of alcohol and with stuff written all around my body (EPIC WIN and an arrow pointing at my hoohah and "love will tear us aznar" on my left arm, for example). Angie cooked our paella, it was really, really good, and we brought beer and sangria. Also, it is traditional for everyone to wear a t-shirt stating the degree they're doing. It is usually done by the whole year, but my classmates are so boring they didn't get around to doing it and Roberto, Sergio and I ended up showing up with DIY t-shirts made by me with the template I mentioned in the last post. It was a great day, spent it with those I love the most -except Olivia and Jenni, that is-. However, I'm not recovered yet. I think I've got a bit of temperature and I'm still exhausted, we went out tonight again but were back home by 2pm. Seriously destroyed, paellas is one hell of a party.

As for the future, now the scholarship has been released, there are big news. I can apply for the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand even though I haven't graduated yet, and I am so applying. I'm certainly not leaving, because even though my average is quite decent, there are very few places so there will probably be someone with better marks than me leaving. I'm still applying for it though. I am also going to apply for French-speaking territories, and I'm thinking of putting up DOM-TOM (French overseas territories) as my first option. Spending the whole year in Martinique or Reunion doesn't sound that bad, especially when I'd be getting paid around €1,300 to live in a tropical island. I still think Matt breaking up with me was a bad idea, but I am certainly aware that if we were still together I would be very stressed out over everything (i.e. money) and only thinking of going back Manchester, whereas now I'm thinking of Manchester, Liverpool, Canberra, Detroit, Vancouver or Guadeloupe, only regretting I won't be able to spend more time with my family. Being single is definitely the best option if you want to go away, which is what I want to do. I'm excited about next year, again.

However, the intended plan is going back to England, because, well, I love the place, so this is the plan for my upcoming years:

Step 1: Conversation assistant - save money for step 2
Step 2: Start a degree at a British university (fancying English and Journalism or Journalism and Political Science at Salford Uni, still have to look into it)
Step 3: MA in my 1st or 2nd degree
Step 4: Find a kick-ass job.

Of course this plan won't happen because, you know, it's enough for you to plan stuff only to things happen the other way round.

I was anyway talking to this friend of Carlos who's leaving in November, she's going to work in Australia as a waitress, and the whole process only cost her €150 through this agency, so I'm going to apply for that thing as well in case Step 1 backfires big time and I end up being assigned certain places in Britain I'd much rather not live in *cough*Coventry*cough*Milton Keynes*cough*Norwich, or nowhere at all.

Don't get me wrong, Coventry is a lovely, lovely place but... awkwarddddddddddddddd.

P.S.: I'm fully aware I can have fun without drinking, but paellas is paellas.

No Love Lost

My laptop is on its last legs so I'm trying not to install loads of programs, because I don't want it to get fucked up again. So far I have only installed Google chrome, Lastfm, Spotify and msn, which is good if you ask me.

Upon fixing my laptop I lost all my music. Now that was painful. I have been dying lately to listen to some Fall Out Boy and The Clash, but I have none on my iPod. Well, I do; but I wanted to listen to them on my laptop, with my iTunes. I would also like to change some of the songs on my playlists, but I don't have the guts to download iTunes again, in case it makes my laptop crash.

The worst bit has been the music I had purchased through iTunes store - I think I can't get it back, that is re-download it again. Some of the songs I bought are on my iPod, but I'm not sure all of them are, so I don't even know whether I can download again the songs I paid for. I think I effectively paid for something I can't have now. If this is true, I intend to complain to some consumer organisation and of course never use the iTunes store again. I will have to look deeper into it though.

I want to listen to more Fall Out Boy, Sonic Youth, Savage Garden, Yo La Tengo (who are playing in Valencia at the end of March) and definitely re-visit all of Joy Division, even though they have never left me.

as every year, my Uni celebrates its anniversary by giving us a Friday off and allowing us to cook paellas on campus. Of course this is used to get absolutely trolleyed with classmates and friends, while you eat a half-cooked paella at 5pm because you're so drunk it's taken you 4 hours to cook it, and it's not even done, but you don't mind.

It's traditional for each degree to design their t-shirts, but this year my classmates -knobs- didn't want to. I proposed to make templates, and I have made one. My t-shirt looks so cool.

For those of you who don't remember or don't know it, (one of) this year's resolutions was to read classics of literature. Today I finished Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Must say I didn't read Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (also included in the book I bought).

I loved the book, it is such a dainty, innocent, quirky, fantastic story. The characters are endearing, from the Mock Turtle to the March Hare. Absolutely loved it. Also, some of its phrases helped me with some stuff going on in my life at the minute, especially the one quoted above.

I also liked this one:

So it's Valentine's Day on Sunday. Again.

I had my first sexual and love experience when I was 15, and I'm now 21, so it's been six years since that. Five Valentine's Day, four out of which I've spent miserably alone. Last year, I was with Matt and I can proudly say I thought it was a load of shit and didn't really want to celebrate it, but still I got him something - can't even remember what. He got me a nice dress.

This year? I am going to spend Valentine's Day nursing a fucking filthy hungover, because Saturday we're going to Vinaròs' Carnival, while face paint is smeared all over my body, frantically praying I haven't lost my nunchuks and ninja dagger and freezing my ass off. Meh. I don't know and I don't care. I just want to drink and forget I will probably die alone, eaten by Alsatians. I am happy with my life, but it's days like these which remind me what others can easily get and I can't because I have to overcome a chronic, man-related shyness which prevents me from even look at the lad I like in the eyes. And that is sex.

A Series of Epic Fails

So I went to my mate's birthday, and she had said "you'll meet three friends of mine, lads, they're amazing and you should totally pull one of them".

As I get to the place, one catches my eye (we'll call him A), we start speaking. We literally hit it off, he knows which internet memes I'm talking about, he's not bad looking, we're both dressed similar, we laugh, we flirt, and then he says "listen sweetheart you're gorgeous, and fun, and intelligent, and God knows I'd like us to do something else, but I just got a new girlfriend so... no". Good, I say, I mean - at least he's not a cheating bastard is he? The other guy (B) is my cousin Arturo's doppelgänger so me, in my drunken state, spend half of the night screaming "ARTUROOOOOOO!!". So that puts him off limits because I'm not into incest even though we're not actually related. And the other one (C)... well, he's good-looking but not my kind of guy but I'm too drunk and we end up kissing. And I regret it. Because I didn't want it to happen, because he's a fucking awful kisser, because just, no. But I'm so drunk that when I want to say "I'm leaving", I actually say "I'm leaving, wanna come?"

Shit fuck bollocks Mire no but seriously, what.

He says "yes", so I make my way to the cloakroom, and I wait for him outside, where A and B are drunk and hate the club (Ettro, it's the worst club on Earth, I swear, but the only one in town which is open beyond 3 am). So I sit with them and after half an hour talking to them I realise C hasn't come out. Much better, I make my drunken way home and the next day I hit the library like a champ.

Thursday the following week? That was like a series of epic fails, one after another.

Translation social outing, I end up ditching them and looking for my friends who are in beat! I find them and I end up with Aloma in Up! (a club, seriously good that night, I have lost my voice singing to all the tunes), and there's a guy (D), who's American and he hugs me and we speak, and we've known each other for two years and he says "hey what you doing Saturday?", me: "nothing, I'm going back to Valencia for the weekend, why?", D: Nah I was gonna invite you round mines but never mind, we'll meet up soon though. (Epic fail, what did D want to do on Saturday? Did it involve him and me, or more people? Seriously, what the fuck?). *laugh*

So whatever, E is there as well, whom I find cute and well, whatever, we flirt a bit, and then he says "heey we're going Ettro wanna come?", I just say "no fucking way, I'm not going in there again". D says: "Oh come on do it for me, I'm going in, everyone is, come on". Okay, I say.

Halfway to Ettro I realise he's holding hands with a girl, and I'm like "what the fuck part II". By the time we get in Ettro D and this girl are sucking face and I'm pretending I like the music. *laugh* At least I'm with my friends!

Then this Finnish guy I met on the bus comes up and talks to me, we dance, we're talking about how bad Ettro is, and then he points at a girl and says: "she's fit. I'm gonna try it with her." Okay that seriously got hysterical, I couldn't believe it.

I got back home at 6:30, woke up at 8 and went into my job placement, like a champ.

But so much better, I told about this to my friend Irene and she thought my life was hysterical. You know what? I think it too, I seriously can't believe it all happened in one night only. And it was so fun!

Everything is Going Wrong, But We're So Happy

Life is not going really well, and despite that, I'm quite happy.

I have had a series of epic fails in the boy-related field (I'll write about them soon), but that's not really the bad part at all. I have laughed really hard with what's happened, so they're funny epic fails. Except one, but it doesn't matter. Laughing at oneself is a very important part of life.

Uni is going good, grades are good, but money...

Dad will likely be losing his job within the next two months, he told me yesterday. It's hard to smile and make plans when something that's always been there, that's always been a constant in your life is going to disappear, especially when it's something as crucial as a job. It's a sinking feeling. You think of all the things that were running in the back of your mind (getting a new laptop, a music festival, clothes...), and you realise that no, that it's all out of the window and you keep your fingers crossed so you don't have to leave your student flat earlier than expected. However, it's helped me put things into prospect very soon - everything that was troubling me until yesterday has just become insignificant when the possibility of having Dad unemployed has become real.

And despite that, I am quite happy.

Life is going by pretty swiftly, smoothly and happily. I will write about my job placement another day though.

Today I washed my hair. I was worried because lately it looked kind of bad when I washed it. What I am going to say will sound very pedantic, but my "bad hair" days are usually better than any "good hair" day for loads of people. Click here for a picture of me on a bad hair day. I take care of my hair, I apply straightening, heat-protecting stuff on it whenever I wash it. I like hair-related stuff, that is why getting my hair cut off short was a drama for me. I braided it, brushed it, dyed it, straightened and curled it; I took care of it and played with it. My hair was, honestly, my greatest source of entertainment. Cutting it was a fashion choice, a fashion statement - I got it cut in Manchester and noone else here at my home Uni in Spain has their hair cut like I do. I know it looks good on me, but I miss long hair anyway. Anyway, we are going off topic here. I love my hair. I treat it well. It is my favourite part of my body. So I bought this amazing honey shampoo from the Body Shop. Well, rather I convinced mum Sánchez to buy it.

Anyway.

As I used it I noticed my hair didn't look quite as good as it used to. I was mystified. The shampoo isn't exactly what you would call cheap so I was within my rights to be pissed off. Ever since I realised my hair didn't look as I wanted it to (i.e.: perfect), I started combining my two shampoos (yes, I have two shampoos - the Body Shop one and a heat protecting one by Tresemmé), I stopped using conditioner then I used it again (Elvive Liso Intenso [Elvive Smooth-Intense]), I used different hair masks (yes, I have two - Schwarzkopf's Liso Asiático (Asian Straight) Hair Mask -sorry but it looks like it's only sold in Spain-, and Tresemmé's Thermal Recovery Hair Mask). And still, my hair wouldn't pass my two tests:

the freedom test: your hair should freely move when you swing your head, it shouldn't look fixed or static. No matter how short it is, it should move freely.
the-day-after test: as a proud owner of an emo fringe, I dread the day after washing my hair, when it's not clean enough but it's not dirty enough either. This day used to end up in my cursing the heavens because my fringe's roots, the partitions, would look dirty.

So today I decided I wouldn't be using what I have been using every single day: Schwarzkop's Liso Asiático Hair Serum. I have used it to keep it straightly straight after I straightened it with my straighteners (mm I love English language), and it works wonders. However, today I didn't use it and

Can't wait for tomorrow!! I am happy my hair is looking this great again, I am thrilled. I think I need to get it cut, and I already have a haircut in mind. Nothing radical though, I love how it looks now so I will just get my fringe and ends trimmed.

I think I will end that Schwarzkopf serum and then swap brands. Jenni had a L'Oréal pink one (I can't remember exactly which one) which was amazing. But then again Manchester's water is the best thing ever for my hair so I don't know what part did the L'Oréal stuff exactly play into all the styling. I just know one thing - I am soon going to run out of conditioner, hair serum and hair mask and even though thinking about how much it is going to cost me physically hurts, I can't wait to go to El Corte Inglés, stand there for 45 minutes, smell every single thing they have (Matt knows well I can spend that much time and more, Boots was pure sex for me) and then choose, or maybe walk to another shop to smell more, and then choose.

Oh and from here I'd like to declare my undying love for hairspray, which helps me keep me emo fringe in place. Funny how I gave mum Sánchez such shit about hairspray, when now I use it that much.

Oh and I also want to declare my undying love for headbands. I love headbands!!

I can't believe I wrote such a long post about my hair, but as I said, I love my hair, and I can talk about it for days.

Speaking about different things - Saturday I am going to meet up with Natalia to buy some stuff for carnival and I can't wait to see her, sometimes your best friends are not necessarily those you see on a daily basis.

Oh and yeah please give a listen to Young the Giant. They are so, so good.

EDIT (this was written the morning after): the fringe looked much, much better. It hasn't passed the test with honours, but it looks more than decent with a bit of hairspray here and there. I'm a happy woman.

Epic lulz, epic facepalm

So there has been this exchange of furtive looks with a guy Aloma and I have taken to call El Xiquet (Catalan: the kid).
He's cute, I know he's interested, blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda. He has bright eyes, a nice cute child-like face, he's kind of tall. He's normal, but, you know - library, exams period, anyone looking at you for more than 2 seconds immediately becomes attractive in your eyes. Besides he's actually kind of cute and I'm all for trying it out with a Catalan native speaker, for a change. Also, as a plus point he's not a scenester. He's not trying hard, he's just normal.
Anyway.
So I'm getting in the tram this morning with Roberto when I see El Xiquet coming towards us, with a mate. I excitedly squeal, in a stupidly girly, squeaky voice: "oh my oh my el xiquet!! Oh God he's so super cute!! Aww he's stupidly cute!! Ahh he's coming!! Aahhhh!!". Then I see El Xiquet's mate smiles and waves at me.
My heart sinks. Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. El Xiquet is looking at me. I'm like "fucking hell NO".
Then I hear "hola!".
The lad who was getting in tram right before me waves and smiles and says hello.
There's absolutely no way he hasn't heard me squealing about his mate. In fact, he has seen me later on walking down the campus, and when I have turned around (El Xiquet hadn't seen me and I wanted to get an... ehem, better view), he was looking at me - sneering.
Well at least now I know he knows. There is really absolutely nothing to lose.
However, I don't know whether I can bothered with the whole courtship process again. It would be much easier if I had the guts to go and say "listen sweetheart I'm not looking for anything serious but you look kind of cute so let me get you a beer and see where this leads". Sadly, I just sit there, look all pretty and give him intense looks which are supposed to mean everything but are probably just a bad squint.

I have been reading a gossip blog for years, called Evil Beet Gossip. It's very funny and sarcastic but also classy, which is good. I mean, yes, it's gossip, but it doesn't feature naked ladies (not anymore anyway) or blatant privacy intrusions.

So, anyway. Evil Beet is United States-based and it often speaks about tv shows we don't get in Europe, such as The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien or Jon & Kate +8. When I get to the parts talking about TV shows I just skip them, but there was a show which caught my eye straight away - The Jersey Shore. It's the tackiest, funniest thing I have seen in a long time, and needless to say I was thrilled when I found out I could watch it online (on MTV's webpage!). It is about a group of young blokes and girls who spend their summer in a summer house on the Jersey Shore, near New York (it's the American equivalent to Benidorm in Europe, fact). They belong to an urban tribe called Guidos (fem - Guidettes), which is basically the equivalent to our Spanish chungos - fake tan, black hair, loads of bling, are bad-mouthed, no-boundaries love of house music, promiscuity and in most cases, they're all brain-dead; and yes - loads of curves for the girls, with hotpants and big cleavages, and long hair; and ripped abs and absurd hairdos for guys. The only difference is Guidos identify themselves with being Italo-American (in Spain, chungos identify themselves with being gipsies, thus adapting even their vocabulary, just like Guidos).

I must admit I'm mystified. It's mint.

It's either posting or sleeping, so you might as well understand I'm going to post here because I'm that kind of person who stays up late for no apparent reason.

I have changed my blog's title.

"One Strongbow Two Strongbow Three Strongbow Floor" was a title which I absolutely loved,but it described a time in my life that is not (sadly? fortunately? averagely?) going to come back. It basically described my time in Manchester as a British fresher (never an exchange student!) at University - alcohol, binge drinking, much fun.

However, and due to all the changes my life's been undergoing, I no longer felt identified with it, so by now it will be "mirror mirror on the wall", because everyone calls me Mirror, and Mirror, in British accent, sounds a lot like my name. So it's a nice pun which still keeps me in touch with Britain -I guess that's something that'll never go away- but also is my name, which if you ask, is appropriate, because this is my blog.

Strangely missing Salford today, but not in a He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named way. I miss Jenni, Olivia, House 28, the Irwell, the field, the ducks, walking to Tesco's with Oli and Primark.

Anyway, enough. Life's unfolding before me and I can't keep clinging to the past. My future looks bright by now, and if not bright, at least I am finally getting really close to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Today, after scraping courage out of air, preparing my best chat-up line, brushing my hair to perfection, putting on my coolest clothes, my mintest make up and my greatest perfume, I walked into the library prepared to find AND finally talk to this stupidly cute, blonde, emo guy who I have been exchanging looks with every day, everywhere for the past week - in the library, on the bus, in the hall, morning, noon and afternoon.

Turns out today's been the first day in the past week I haven't seen him.

Yesterday I went to a gig with all my friends, only five of them were missing. It was great, even though I sadly got too drunk and left early - when I'm drunk I'm a mess and I decided I wanted a curry, so I hopped into Natalia's car, who was going back home because she had to study, and I got back home at 4am and had a big massive drunk curry. Good thing is - no hungover this morning!

The gig was by a band called Love of Lesbian (LOL - yes, really!), and I had never listened properly to them, but I must say they're really good. Most of my friends are into them, and they had two spare tickets so they invited me. It was really cool, we had loads of fun and were first row. It was funny how there were loads of cool kids, and it looked how they weren't there so much to see the band but because yesterday the LOL concert was THE place to be seen if you are a cool kid in Castelló. So there I was, with a very cool t-shirt (J'-heart- Montréal, Canada), which Olivia brought me from -yep- Montreal, and my velvet miniskirt, and the kids would look at me and my headband and then they would look at other cool kids and try to determine their level of coolness, see whether they were cooler than them or not. It was the living representation of the Facebook group "Modernos que miran mal a otros modernos que son más modernos que ellos" ("Cool kids who give dirty looks to other cool kids who are cooler than them"). It got to such a stupid point when there were these two cool kids, extremely cool - big ear plugs, facial piercings, tattooed hands, extreme thinness, cool hair- and they wouldn't dance to the music or sing along because doing that was just not cool.

It was mint, it was :D

My friends bring out the best of me. When I'm with them I no longer feel sad, I just laugh, and laugh, and chat about anything in the world.

This is me today, at our faculty's cafeteria, impersonating Lisa Simpson in that Simpsons episode where Homer and Lisa sneak in the Springfield museum to visit an Ancient Egypt exhibit, and he tries to trespass the barrier set by a velvet rope around an antique. Anyway. Lisa then says: "dad, no! There's a velvet rope! And the velvet rope...!"

I am sad today, and what's best is that I was okay this morning. It has been a slippery slope.

Today it would have been our anniversary, a whole year together -he mentioned it yesterday!-, but instead all I (we) have are long conversations on msn and promises of a future together, which might happen or might not. I am fine with that, seriously. I know what my situation is and I fully accept it. I truly believe if something is meant to happen it will, and for some reason I think we are meant to happen, but just not yet. Maybe so I can focus on my degree and my job placement. I don't know.

Anyway.

We were speaking and he suddenly logged out (which makes me think she unexpectedly showed up in his room), and a bit later suddenly bloody iTunes decided to play a song which we'd listen to all the time when we were together, and that I love(d). Hadn't listened to it since we broke up, because it's an amazing love song by a band he got me into.

And then suddenly it hit home - listening to Always Attract for the first time in months, the thought that right now he might be with her (BUMPING UGLIES ARRGHH). And I crawled under my covers and wanted to cry but I promised myself I would no longer cry over him.

So I wished... I don't know what I wished. I just stared at the dark infinity under my cover, breathing and feeling my heartbeat, with nothing in my head but an empty feeling. Nothing is easy. I love and I hate my life, and nothing is going to make it better, because I don't even know what I want. From him or from anyone, for that matter.

I was really starting to feel better and then this. Maybe it is just a bump on the road to recovery.

But seriously 2010, get MY life sorted.

And for anyone who'll comment - yes, I'm fully aware he's downgraded and that she isn't as pretty or as smart as me. But does it make it any better?

No, no, no. If anything it makes it funnier looking at his profile and seeing how fucking lame she is.

I am packing right now, as mum and dad will be driving me back to Uni today after lunch. I have just found myself with the same feeling as usual - three days ago I couldn't wait to get back to my flat, with my mates and everything, and now I feel sad about leaving my parents. It kind of sucks, I am not entirely happy anywhere I go. I think it has a lot to do with my life being split between three cities and two countries.

EDIT (two hours later): I'm taking with me a massive suitcase, two handbags, a box, several plastic bags, my guitar and my laptop. HOW ABOUT THAT?

It started amazingly well, at the best New Year's Eve part I have ever been to. One to be remembered. I hope 2010 is better than 2009, which is gonna be hard, despite all that happened in the last 45 days of the year.

Dreams

Today I had a dream, it was as if it happened on The Famished Road, by Ben Okri, which is one of the books we have to read at Uni this year.

In my dream, someone took a picture of me, but it wasn't just a picture of me, it was a picture of me and my inner world. In it, I was there, standing between two palm trees, while the figures of those whom I miss and love the most were close to me (Olivia was by my side, hugging me; mum and dad were a bit farther, Roberto was somewhere as well...); and also there were some of my thoughts floating around. Some crazy man also said I'd die, but then I dreamt I had grown up and I was married to an American man, and I was living in New York and had kids. The man who took the photo looked somewhere between Dumbledore and Gandalf, and he held my hand and led me through the whole dream.

All in all, it should have been a scary experience, but alas, it was revealing and memorable. That's why I am writing about it.
